Cupping is a Chinese medical therapy in which heat is used to produce a vacuum in a cup that is then placed along the meridians of the body. Much like a deep-tissue massage, cupping helps to reduce pain and inflammation, promotes relaxation, blood flow, and healing. Red circle marks that may be produced after a cupping treatment disappear within days. Cupping enjoyed global attention during the 2016 Olympics in Rio when athletes such as Michael Phelps helped to popularize this ancient therapy.
